The economist was sworn in during the transfer of authority ceremony held at the National Congress in Valparaíso. The new minister will lead the management of the country's economic and fiscal policy.

On Wednesday at midday, economist Jorge Quiroz Castro took office as Minister of Finance of President José Antonio Kast during the transfer of authority ceremony held at the National Congress in Valparaíso.

From today, Minister Quiroz will lead Chile's economic and fiscal management, tasked with restoring order to public finances, recovering the economy's growth capacity, and strengthening conditions for job creation.

Upon arriving at the Ministry of Finance, Minister Quiroz underscored the ministry's critical role in the country's development. "The Ministry of Finance is unlike any other ministry. It is where decisions are made that directly affect the lives of all Chileans—their hopes for prosperity, progress, and family aspirations. It shapes public finances, fiscal balance, and fiscal order," he stated.

The minister also outlined the principal economic challenges ahead. "The road before us demands intensive work. We have set out to boost economic growth while simultaneously restoring order to public finances. We need a government that puts its own house in order and removes barriers that today obstruct progress. That is what we are here to do."

Finally, Quiroz expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to the task. "I am deeply grateful that the President has entrusted me with this responsibility. I approach it with humility, but above all with a profound sense of responsibility and dedication to work. I want the full Ministry to work alongside me. Together, we will advance, we will work as one, we will succeed, and things will turn out well."

Minister Jorge Quiroz holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Chile and a Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University. He brings extensive experience in economic affairs, spanning both economic and financial consulting and academia.
